In today’s Seasonal Pantry, which you can read here, I talk about some of the foods that are getting me through this winter’s wicked virus. If you have special soups, juices or other dishes that get you through, take a minute to share them in the comments section below.

Later today, I’ll add the promised recipes for jook and my so-called magic chicken soup.

I like to keep a batch of the Spicy Flu Chaser chicken soup, from the New England Soup Factory Cookbook, in the freezer, so if I get a cold or flu during the winter it’s there waiting for me. It’s got an extra-rich broth, about 20 cloves of roasted garlic, cumin, cinnamon, cayenne, and lots of lemon juice. And plenty of chicken.

The recipe calls for adding rice but I prefer to add orzo or egg noodles after I defrost it.

I also like to get a good sorbet to help with sore throat–cold, sweet and smooth, just feels so good.
