Fresh From Our Farmers: West End Farmers Market Opens

Opening day at the West End Farmers Market offered an idyllic scene, as if I had just stumbled into an urban utopian novel. Couples lounged on well-tended grass next to the beautiful DeTurk Round Barn, eating lunch on porcelain plates as little girls in frilly dresses practiced somersaults and headstands. Dogs of all sizes chased balls and sniffed each other in the spacious dog park adjacent to the lawn, as their humans leaned on the fence chatting and offering an… Read More »

Fresh From Our Farmers: Sebastopol in December

On Sunday, the Sebastopol Farmers Market was smaller than usual, though it was hard to tell, given the market’s location shift. For the month of December, the market moves to the town plaza so holiday shoppers have access to parking. It will return to its usual spot on January 6. Although the market opens at 10 a.m., the day begins much earlier for farmers and ranchers, who must harvest if they have not already done so, pack and drive, sometimes… Read More »

Fresh From Our Farmers: Bodega Bay Market Opens

One of our tiniest seasonal farmers markets, the one in Bodega Bay, opened for its second season on May 27. The market is a delightful community affair, with a leisurely pace in a beautiful setting. When I arrived last Sunday at 10 a.m., the field where the market takes place was cloaked in fog and bathed by a brisk wind, one that chilled shoppers and vendors but did not threaten stall tents. By the time I left an hour later,… Read More »

Fresh From Our Farmers: Redwood Empire Farmers Market Opens

The Redwood Empire Farmers Market is the fourth farmers market in Santa Rosa. For a summary of Santa Rosa markets, check out a recent post here. On opening day, there were 44 stalls, 42 with vendors, one with a magician and one that serves as the market’s information booth. When it comes… Read More »

Fresh From Our Farmers: Petaluma Saturday Market Opens For Its 26th Season

The Petaluma Farmers Market, located in Walnut Park a few blocks south of downtown, opens for its 26th season this Saturday, May 19. There will be about 50 vendors, most of them returning, a few new. Many of the vendors attend several markets a week. Among them are Hector Alvarez, with honey, honey products, eggs, garlic, chiles and other vegetables. The Patch starts its 2012 season here; you can expect early zucchini, onions, potatoes and such from this Sonoma farm,… Read More »

Fresh From Our Farmers: Sebastopol in late November

To my thinking, if farmers show up at the market in the rain, the least I can do is the same. But at the Sebastopol farmers market on Sunday, neither vendors nor shoppers seemed deterred by the weather. … Read More »
