RIP Ophelia

I had a chicken in Forestville. A week ago, a critter got into the coop and killed her and one other hen. It is one of the risks of raising chickens, but worth the heartache when you understand the superiority of eggs from happy, well-fed hens. Recipes, too, of course.

Meat This Now: Factory Farms or Grass-raised Animals?

Dan Imhoff, who has written a very good and very important book, CAFO: The Tragedy of Industrial Animal Factories, will be part of a panel discussion at Sonoma Country Day School on Thursday evening. The discussion will be followed by a farmers market featuring local ranchers, growers and other producers.
