Sunday is National Pie Day, a day dedicated to the celebration of this all-American favorite. It shouldn’t come as any surprise that it was created by the American Pie Council. You can read about it here.

Do you have a favorite pie, homemade or commercial? If so, please take a minute to tell us about it in the comment section of this blog.

Strawberry-rhubarb pie is one of my favorites. Hurry up, local strawberries!

There are plenty of ways to celebrate the day, should you be so inclined. You can buy a pie–sweet or savory–at Saturday’s farmers market in Santa Rosa. You can stop by Kozlowski Farms for a fresh-baked pie and you can order pie as dessert at your favorite restaurant, provided it is on the menu, of course. You can eat pie for breakfast, lunch and dinner on Sunday.

Or you can bake your own. Here are a few favorite recipes from the Seasonal Pantry archives to help you out.

Sweet:

Pastry Dough for Pies

Fresh Pear Pie, with variations

Chess Pie

Southern Pecan Pie

Sweet Potato Pie

Savory:

Cottage Pie

Shephard’s Pipe

Italian Shepherd’s Pie

Sicilian-Style Shepherd’s Pie
